Local people celebrate Greensand Country landscape at annual Festival

Jun 2023

The Greensand Country Festival 2023 saw people from across the local landscape enjoy a variety of events, activities and charity challenges, in celebration of the outstanding countryside on our doorstep.

Hosted by the Greensand Country Landscape Partnership since 2018, this year’s festival took place from 1st May to 11th June and covered the entire landscape, from Leighton Buzzard to Gamlingay.

Events included willow weaving, guided walks, a bioblitz, vineyard event, plant fair, fun run, ultra trail and many more. Partners were particularly pleased to hear from the local community about how much they value the landscape and appreciate the work that the partnership is continuing to undertake to preserve, protect and promote Greensand Country.

As well as the public events scheduled throughout the festival, local solicitors Taylor Walton LLP gathered 65 members of its team and their friends and family for a two-day charity walk across the Greensand Ridge, raising funds for mental health charity, Mind.

Reflecting on another successful Greensand Country Festival, Partnership Coordinator, Daniel Bowles says:

“My biggest takeaway from this year’s festival is the number of people we spoke to about the area and how supportive they are of the work the partnership is doing in caring for the countryside.

“The Greensand Country Landscape Partnership attended the Leighton Buzzard May Fayre, Leighton Buzzard Market, Astral Park wellbeing event, and Moggerhanger Plant Fair and met with some wonderful local people who truly value our unique and beautiful landscape.”
