Vineyard tour and tasting at Warden Abbey Vineyard

Saturday 29th May 2021 11:00 - 13:00

Doors open: 10:45 am

Nestled between the picturesque villages of Old Warden and Cardington, vines were first planted on this beautiful Bedfordshire field in medieval times by monks at the Cistercian Abbey of Warden. Centuries later, the Whitbread family re-planted the monks’ “Little Vineyard”, and went on to produce award-winning wines right up to their last vintage in 2008. Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity now lease the vineyard in an ambitious project to provide a unique community and educational resource – and are carrying on the tradition of making medal winning wines.

The vineyard is bursting into life at this time of year, and you can discover the secrets of its medieval history as well as hear about English Wine and how volunteers look after the vineyard all year round at this exciting community project. Tours finish with a tasting of a couple of our wines.

The safety of our visitors and volunteers is our top priority, so please be assured that we will follow all government guidelines regarding Covid-19. We have put careful measures in place to allow you to visit us safely, and to enjoy time outside with family and friends.
