Is your business or organisation located within or close to Greensand Country? Then you can benefit from a free ‘sense of place’ training workshop, designed to improve your marketing and publicity by helping you get the most out of being in this special landscape.
What is ‘sense of place’?
A sense of place is the term used to describe the emotions and experiences we associate with places. It’s how places make us feel. It’s what gives an area its identity and makes it different from elsewhere. It’s made up of the different landscapes, wildlife, history, people, sights, sounds, smells, tastes, memories and many other things that contribute to our experience of a place. And it’s used all the time by ‘big business’ in branding and marketing – from food and drink, to clothing, holidays and many different products and services – a ‘sense of place’ also makes good business sense.
How is this relevant to me?
If you belong to a local business, community group or organisation, then the more you develop an understanding of your area the more you will appreciate its sense of place – and importantly, you’ll be able to use this understanding to unlock a number of benefits. For example, a sense of place can be used to:
- Help businesses improve their branding and marketing, and add value to local products and services
- Help bring communities together and connect people with the landscape
- Provide inspiration for education and the creative arts
- Improve the ‘welcome’ and local knowledge offered by tourism staff
- Strengthen the identity of an area by encouraging different groups to work together, so that everyone benefits
Led by consultants, Countryscape, and supported by the Greensand Country Landscape Partnership, the event will explain what’s meant by ‘sense of place’ and guide participants in how it can be used in simple and practical ways.
The event is open to everyone and you don’t need any previous experience in marketing and communications to take part – your own local knowledge is all the expertise you’ll need.
