Jane Austen and the Regency Garden: Heroes, Villains and Mr Repton by Caroline Bowdler
Thursday 02nd February 2023 19:00 - 20:30
Doors open: 6:45 pm
From the country house to the snug parsonage and the humble cottage, in town and country, your park or garden displays your status and taste (and your all-important income). Are you an improver, seeking Mr Repton’s help to remodel your estate, or attached to the more formal styles of the past? Jane Austen captures it all, and uses attitudes to the garden fashions of her day to reveal her characters.
We look at gardens Jane Austen knew and other examples of the period- and at her little-known link to a Bedfordshire estate visited by Repton.
