Leighton Buzzard
Leighton Buzzard is a town to the West of Greensand Country. The town is home to around 37,000 people and amenities include public parks, Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre, a skate park, tennis courts and a football club.
The town of Leighton Buzzard has over 1,000 years of history. The River Ouzel, which runs through the middle of the town, was on the front line when Britons fought off invading Saxons in the 5th Century and then again four hundred years later when the Saxons faced the Vikings. The name “Leighton” derives from a Saxon term meaning “a clearing in the woods”.
Today the picturesque medieval high street provides a diverse selection of independent and branded shops. The thriving Charter Market takes place every Tuesday and Saturday and speciality events include a pop-up market supporting local businesses (first Saturday of each month) and a handmade and craft market (fourth Saturday of each month between March and December).
