Greensand Champions 2023 Winner Announced

Oct 2023

Greeensand Country, in partnership with The Greensand Trust is delighted to announce our new Greensand Champions for 2023: Aspley Guise Village School Eco Team.

Each year, the Greensand Champions scheme celebrates the work of local young people, who are having a hugely positive impact on our environment. We were delighted to have nominations from a variety of age groups and from people all across the Greensand Country area, including youth and school groups. By showcasing what young people are doing, we hope to empower them and highlight how their efforts are helping to make a difference.

Aspley Guise Village School Eco Team will receive £250 to support the continued work they’re doing to help the environment, and we will support them in planning how they can make best use of their prize money.

The judges were particularly impressed with what the Village School Eco Team is doing to reduce energy consumption, and how each class can contribute to this. Reducing our use of plastics is also key to helping the environment, and the team has made great steps in reducing plastic usage across the school. They even turned it into a competition to make sure they were all doing as much as they possibly could.

All of our entrants are Greensand Champions, and they have all done great work in helping the environment and are inducted into our ‘hall of fame’. Everyone that entered will be receiving some wildflower seeds too.

We would like to thank this year’s sponsor Meadfleet who have supported the wildflower seeds and prize money.

Greensand Country Partnership Coordinator, Daniel Bowles says:

“We’re proud to offer the Greensand Champions scheme, which encourages local youth groups, schools and individuals to take positive and meaningful action for the future of our environment.

“Congratulations to our 2023 Greensand Champions winner, and to all of those who applied. Well done for the fantastic work that you’re all doing for our local landscape and we look forward to seeing what you’ll be working on next.”
