Annual General Meeting and Talk by Paul Hawkes

Thursday 16th September 2021 19:30 - 21:30

Doors open: 7:30 pm

Come and join us at this annual event where you can vote for your candidate for the committee roles and hear a round-up of all we have been doing and what is to come in the next year of the award-winning Bedfordshire Geology Group. Afterwards we will enjoy a light bite and a mug of tea or coffee whilst you settle down to listen to a fascinating talk by one of our own members, Paul Hawkes entitled:

“The Structural and Stratigraphic Evolution of the Wessex Basin, Southern England”

This talk will focus on the Mesozoic – Recent evolution of the Wessex Basin, which records episodic phases of rifting and subsidence in both continental (Triassic) and marine (Jurassic-Cretaceous) deposition settings.

The evidence and impact of significant Tertiary uplift will also be illustrated, which has led to the present-day geological configuration of this Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

The evolution of the Wessex Basin will also be referenced to the development of its petroleum system and the hydrocarbon discoveries that have been made in this area.
